Ahmed, your words are what I would have hoped for from Australia's federal and state leaders, full of love for all people.

I am left wondering why the Australian Jewish Association objected. Other comments might share some insights on this?

Thank you for publishing this piece, we are all better for such thoughtful contributions. I hope many more people have the chance to talk to someone from a community unfamiliar to them. It's always time well spent. And my wish is that our Parliaments look and sound like the Australia of 2025, the lack of demographic diversity is a staggering reflection of how far off the myth of the 'fair go' we are.

This is a beautiful piece.

Shame on the Sydney Morning Herald for removing it from their website.

I went back and read the article in Wednesday SMH. I have not got the mind set of the member or members of the Australian Jewish Association who made the compliant so for me it is hard to fathom.

I do wonder about the SMH publish the article then delete it following a compliant. Should not the SMH herald tell it readers why it was found to be worthy of printing and then not worthy so deleted.

It's a message of compassion and empathy extended to everyone so I don't understand why there would be complaints from the Jewish community. The SMH lost the plot sometime ago and is no longer a serious broadsheet newspaper.

I'm also dumbfounded by New South Wales government's rushing through laws against protest and free speech linking it to the mass shooting. It's counter-productive and implies one religious group has greater legitimacy than another's.
