Who will fund this? Who is this group going to “protect”. Australia has lower gun fatalities since access to guns was restricted. Why does Chris Minns want to introduce a group that would create more fear and division. Why do our collective governments only see violence as the answer to any issue and then feign surprise when people act with violence??
Our police force is the group that carry guns not some private group. Less guns not more, what happened on Sunday is a shock and hopefully never happens again, in same parts of the world it seems to be a weekly or daily event due to the availability of guns.
Last thing Australia needs is groups of private militias running around shooting innocent bystanders on the pretext they were a threat to their particular constituency. Chris Minns needs a neurocognitive assessment if he thinks this is a good idea,
My problem is where does this stop? Next you have the Muslims wanting armed personnel, then who? Christians, Buddhists? Anyone would have their own armed personnel and the precedent being set here.
What result do we end up with down the track? Civil war?
This is just dividing the country and we should not talk about it until everyone calms down.
Obviously, the best way to handle a bad guy with a gun is to give the good guys guns, works wonderfully well for the Americans. So incredibly short sighted and reflexive as to be stupid, idiotic. What is Minns's vision for Australia, gunfights?
Where is the evidence to suggest that armed “guards” would protect civilians?
What about the returned IDF/IOF soldiers fresh from committing war crimes - they now get guns and a license to harass people in public places?
Does every group get to carry guns and act like a pseudo police force at community events?

Minns needs to be reminded that you don't make one group safer by making everyone else unsafe.

All of this is completely fucking insane.
This is extremely disturbing and concerning
