It is always confected to sound so reasonable as the knife of authoritarianism is held to democracy’s throat. Only problem is, in Dave Hughe’s case, all I can hear is an incredibly irritating incessant whine. Our democracy is under grave threat from those who are uncomfortable hearing the truth if it counters their interests. AHPRA has just caved to the interests that don’t want discussion about the appalling situation in Gaza, even threatening, I believe, to trawl health professionals social media proactively in a bid to enforce silence. A health society thrives in the light. I feel the darkness descending and the irritating whine getting louder.

So true. The trouble is that it all goes back to the mainstream media which is owned by the rich. We don't hear about reality because the media aren't broadcasting it. Anyone who just reads mainstream media is a captured audience.

He’s made a life style from whining. Stands for nothing, whines about everything . He’s not even funny. He’s the joke

Dave Hughes's latest trajectory is interesting (not in a good way). He was a washed comedian who fell into realising he could be relevant again by going rightwards and trying to act like he's just being "logical" in this world that has passed him by. It's a schtick as old as time. This is different than Karl Stefanovic, who seemingly decided to actively chase the right-wing for the outrage clicks. It doesn't make Hughes any less bad or dangerous than Karl, pushing fascist bullshit just to try and get clicks, but it is interesting to see how quickly they'll both spout the most horrible stuff just for attention. No ethics, no morals, no soul. Just attention (and money).

And not funny, just whiny

Passive income earner here...the new tax regulations are common sense. Yes I'll pay more tax, but passive income is something derived from choices that I have total control over vs income from wages where a boss decides my destiny and where the amount is always going to be restricted by things outside of their control. I remember my accountant telling me that people who complain about paying too much tax are making a lot of money.

Thanks Amy, splendid analysis.

Hughes I regard as just another living in an onanistic RW fantasy-land.

Likely the next we shall hear from him (and others) will be talk of "people like us".

We have some experience of where that leads.

My Grandmother used to tell me that she had “refined sense” not “common sense”. Perhaps folks need to do some refining of their sense! 🤔

No better example of the two party system working in the interests of capital not constituents.

Can’t tell you how many red flags go up in my brain whenever one of these RW dumbbells ascribes something to “common sense”.
