Excellent piece, Amy. Thank you.

The mainstream media are choosing drama over democracy to serve the interests of their masters. We shouldn't be surprised after the appalling coverage of The Gaza Genocide and the US/Israel illegal war on Iran.

"48% of South Australian voters put Labor or the Greens first" ~ You need to stop potraying Labor as being on the same side of the political spectrum as the Greens. Labor has much more in Common with the Liberals, and this false potrayal of Labor as somehow being on the left with the Greens has helped push politics to the right in this country.

The media, like the LNP thrive of divisiveness. Hanson provides that without any substance policy wise.

While we have people like Hanson the MSM will always give them the sympathetic ear no matter the destructive nature of their cause.

This is a really interesting article - thank-you.

I wonder if thinking of Trump's destruction of US democracy can really be described as something that happened in a year? He worked hard to attack democracy in his first term but was largely thwarted. He and his allies continued with that work while he was out office. Once he'd reclaimed the presidency, he and his allies were ready to roll, and roll they have.

That out of office preparatory work has been key to Trump's success in the last year and, as you have reminded us, has been under way in Australia for some time through One Nation and powerful elements of the traditional conservative parties.

I agree that the media hasn't tackled the situation effectively, but I also wonder how many Australians would pay attention to reports of the rather mundane ways anti-democracy efforts push at laws and conventions and the 'vibes' that social media campaigns build over time?

I too look forward to your articles, Amy. The media distinguishes itself it seems to me by its shallowness. It seems to have a preference for performative politicians rather than thoughtful people. I know so many people who would prefer to hear a discussion with politicians like ed HUSIC , Andrew Leigh, many a side lined woman, politicians who have thought through many of our difficult problems. 730 does not make the best use of Sarah Ferguson. It limits her. The ABC is becoming like channel 9 so many of us have stopped watching. We go to YouTube and Substack. We try to Put together a working title in a way of what we think is going on in our very very disturbed world. It is in chaos both politically and climactically.

The rise of One Nation this time is due to the two main political parties not listening to the people.

Pauline is not the sharpest tool in the shed as she admits but she is saying what a large part of the population is thinking, feeling and seeing every day on the streets of every town in Australia.

If it turns into votes and does not implode this may be a good thing if politicians start listening to the people because they are not listening now.

The Australian people may vote for Pauline even if it is cutting your nose of the spite your face as we see with Trump in America and the rise of parties of the right in England and parts of Europe.

We know with the press if it bleeds it leads and we get more opinion in main stream media than news.
