I have been questioning these police tactics for quite awhile as the usual MO is to herd and move peaceful protesters on but stand about when NeoNazi or RW groups are intimidating and abusing the public and/or opposing protesters. When Free Palestine marches occur in Melbourne the marchers are surrounded by police on foot yet there is never any violence and everyone is happy to flag wave, drum on pots or chant. NN love their masks, black clothing, confronting anyone who doesn’t appear supportive and shouting out speeches condemning any and every one who is not part of their cohort. Free Palestine group is banned yet NN and RW groups are allowed to flourish. It is documented that RW, fundamentalists and sovereign citizens are the ones that take lives yet there are no checks regarding their rhetoric and behaviour.

After attending so many pro Palestine rallies in Melbourne all peaceful the difference on how we are treated in compared to racist pro Isareli is clear.

Two things are true. The police treat the far-right with kid gloves compared to literally anyone fighting for change, and we are lost if we need the police to combat the far right.

The police have a hard job at the best of times, no matter the issue the police get the blame. If they jump in they are being to forceful if they stand back there not doing enough.

They are the first one we call when trouble starts, but sacrifice them when political convenient.

Understandable why the police ranks are so thin and officers are resigning.
