I screamed when I heard her say that. Every body has to be taken to a hospital to register a death. The number is so underestimated when you consider how many bodies still lie under the rubble and are not counted as dead.
Regarding Anne Aly's failure to reply, she has form in this regard. I wrote to her a couple of years ago in her capacity as Minister for Youth and in view of her background in counter terrorism and deradicalisation. I was concerned about a friend's teenage son's growing interest in a right-wing influencer, and asked if she was aware of this character, Ricardo Bossi. I received neither a reply nor acknowledgement of my email. (I later found out that the Wieambilla killers had been in touch with Bossi).
The only time she has replied to me was when I asked for a response to an article by Laura Tingle on the ABC website re the muted response to Islamophobic attacks on mosques compared to the highly politicised attack on the Adass synagogue in Melbourne. Her reply was highly defensive and she appeared insulted that I was questioning her response to Islamophobia.
