Thank you for this article. It certainly explains why some Jewish university students feel like they encounter a lot of anti-Semitism when they get to university. What to me would seem like reasonable criticism of Israel and the exercising of a democratic right to stand up for the Palestinians must genuinely feel like a challenge to their whole world view, especially if they've been told that Israel is essential to their personal safety. That fact that it's deeply and genuinely felt makes it harder to combat, especially as it's based on indoctrination from childhood.
I went to Mount Scopus Memorial College for 9 years after transferring from the 'Bundist' Sholem Aleichem where I was part of their foundational classes in the mid-70s. Ironically I still understand and can speak Yiddish better than I do Hebrew, which I did for 9 years, 'tutotred' by ex-Golanis who had no teaching credentials, and didn't understand that corporal punishment was banned in the 70s... Anyway I copped the WHOLE brainwash starting with the Israel-Egypt peace deal, (in which a Hebew teacher told us that the name 'Israel' is an amalgum of all the neighbouring states - Iran, Syria, 'arabia', Egypt, Lebanon!), Bar Mitvah classes, the 'counterpount' program where American Mizrachi Zionists would appropriate 'American Pie' into Zionist love song eg. marry a yenta, have 10 children, make Aliyah..I tried all the Zionist youth movements from Betar to Hubbo, did my 'AUJS Academy' summer holiday which got my group getting pelted by biblical rocks duting the first Intafada!! Unlike the typical brainwashed Zionist, I would like to be fair and say I had a really GOOD education, beyond the mandatory Zionist brainwash since day dot. We learnt about the Gold rush, the Aboriginal genocide, the Vietnam war, post WW2 American 'manifest destiny' soft power, we even went to Canberra and met Bob Hawke, who even knew some of my school collague parents, becuase..they were LOBBYISTS! So the enducation was FIRST CLASS, but completely SHITHOUSE if you wanted to be an artist, or a musician or a political or poetic thinker and experience an evolved and mature existence beyond the binary, fascistic and now Genocidal existence of being 'Chosen by Hoshem'! I means we used to mock the 'froomers' at Yreshiva and Yavneh for being so closetted and obsessive, and dare we say it 'brainwashed' by the Tenach, where we started binge drinking at 15, smoking pot from Israeli drug dealers via Hubbo, get a pash from blonde 'shickes' who 'put out more' at King street discos and going to the footy every Shabbes! Och! It always baffles me how my parents paid so much money to give us the best education possible, and for so many of my 'ex' Friends and family to be so completeley idiotic and stupid and just plain racist when it comes to Israel and the Palestinian Genocide.
Australia made a terrible mistake in allowing publicly funded private schools of any ilk to exist. Particularly catastrophic in this space, but plenty of religious indoctrination of all varieties now takes place in a liquorice allsorts of private schools - not to mention more subtle elitist indoctrination too.
Those private schools all produce people who are formed in a similar straitjacketed environment to the one Daniel describes. Who grow up thinking they are the chosen elite, and ultimately superior to everyone else. That can only end badly.
Yes. All that private schools do is maximise mostly very average intellect with very poor results. And of course with a huge PR budget tailored to parents to avoid scrutiny and accountability. They should receive no public funds at all. ps. Thank you for the article !

As Daniel points out, it is clear to the 'rest of us' what is going on in Gaza, and there's been an avalanche of clarity about the nature of Israel over recent decades, so the wonder is how in thrall to a myth Jews continue to be. And how powerful they are in influencing governments, including our own.
We criticize the 'Zionist' lobby for their tactic of conflating ancient antisemitism with criticism of Israel. But after reading Daniel's article, I think maybe it's not a tactic, it's a heartfelt belief. And since it's an evil myth, that makes Jewishness or Zionism, I don't know which, if they're different, a cult.
It's both a tactic and a belief. Either way, it's important not to conflate anti Israel sentiment with antisemitism because it's how Zionists legitimise their critics.
Not my area, but my understanding of 'ancient antisemitism' is that Jews were socially rejected by Christians, who regarded usury as a sin, and therefore Jews were will suited to it. So Jews were created as a race apart. That would seem to be seriously ancient history, of no relevance in Australia. Today, we notice that all of the perpetrators of the genocide are Jews, and that, although the polling doesn't seem authoritative, a majority of the Jewish diaspora support Israel. So I think that ancient antisemitism is irrelevant - it certainly is in my bubble, anyway - and that what we have is a Jewish problem. Given the numbers, it seems to me important that Jews who do not identify with Israel need to say so, as you have very powerfully done.
Daniel, my heartfelt thanks to you for sharing such personal experiences and the educational choices you therefore made for your own children. You have helped develop my understanding of why so many Australians, "perpetual victims", can turn a blind eye to or actively support the large scale slaughter of the indigenous Palestians.
The desire of every religion / political party get them young and indoctrinate them to your ideology and a servant for life in most cases, no different to all the other religions / political parties. Is it religion or control of the individual that is the driver.
Religion would have to be man's worst invention no matter the franchise.
The annoying part is that my tax's are paying for it and it doesn't matter which franchise all are sucking on the teat of government pay no tax and take every advantage in gods name.

On a separate note I was a huge supporter of the Yes campaign in 2023. Having learnt since that it was heavily influenced by the Zionist M Liebler I’m no longer clear that the proposal was designed with the best intentions for our First Nations people.
