Flanagan has nailed it. It's pretty clear that the Zionist lobby in Australia is trying to do what it has done in the UK and the US in the past - totally take over the narrative and getting everyone to cheer for Israel. Except they're a bit late. No one is buying it except the politicians.

But why??? Why is Albanese giving in to Jillian Segal?? I keep coming back to the 'why', its so frustrating, infuriating and just plain old head scratching. Why is he being such a dickhead about this.....( and I'm only singling the prime minister out about this because he's head of government so the buck stop with him). What a nasty hateful piece of work Segal is

Threats. From the US and Israel. Both explicit and implicit. You don't dare step out of line with Israel; they will do everything the can to destroy you.

True. But as the saying goes: never appease a bully.

Spain is paying the price now of crossing Israel.

Israel has not begun to pay the price of what it has done to Palestine - and the rest of the world.

Guin’s Ormela’s is a wonderful short story and one I often feel is applicable to today’s society with the violence done to First Nations, refugees and societies overseas. There is a loss that happens from walking away but a recovery of soul also.

The story also depicts the current situation in apartheid Israel.

Such a powerful speech - however, the Trump administration can’t have pressured the Albanese government to appoint Segal in 2024, as Trump wasn’t in office until 2025. Pedantic I know, but an important point to show that when it comes to the US, the Israel lobby has captured both major parties, as it has done here in Australia.

A riveting speech to watch (and relieving to have breaks from the tragedy with humour). Imagine what Richard Flanagan could have brought had they allowed him into Gaza with Ben Quilty. Israel probably would have killed them though, you know, mistakenly. Thanks Deepcut for the transcript, complete with highlighted text to links which the spoken word can't offer. So valuable.

On second thoughts, although he said lots of important things (important because he has reach), it was a 46 and a half minutes long speech, so 'd forgotten about the things he got wrong. So when reading or listening to this speech, take notes.
